Dilapan-S is used to gently dilate the cervix in preparation for curettage: a rod that is thinner at its tip absorbs moisture from the surrounding tissue, as a result of which it gradually swells and gently dilates the cervix evenly to approximately 3 mm to 10 mm.

The plastic rod is brown and transparent and has a short thread on its opposite end. An advertising brochure is included.
